I chose to speak to my mother, Bonnie Pynn, about her experience in a unionized workforce. Growing up with a mother who was unionized, I never worried about the security of her job, or the money needed to make my house run smoothly. When talking to her about the tools she appreciated about her union, her first thought was just this, how she felt secure in her job and always had the thought in her mind that someone would be there to fight for her no matter what. As a kid, I would ask my mother what a union was, and she would say people that are there to help you, no matter the circumstances. This is something I wish to have in my career. Another aspect that I envied as I got older was the educational training she received through her union.
