The race began in Hopkinton, which is west of Boston. There were around 23,000 participants that participated in the marathon races that day. After the bombing many schools in the Boston area were put on lockdown and people were advised to stay inside their houses as the police searched for the suspects. The investigation soon started. On April 18 around 10:30, Sean Collier, a police officer, was found shot dead in his patrol car on the Cambridge campus, Massachusetts’ Institute of Technology. Later the murder was linked to the Tsarnaev brothers, who tried to steal the officer’s weapon. After Collier was murdered, Tamerlan Tsarnaev carjacked an SUV at gunpoint and held the driver hostage informing him that he was one of the Boston Marathon bombers. Today Bauman travels sharing his story and is to be portrayed in the movie ‘Stronger’ in 2017, which portrays the Boston Marathon attack.
