Boston Tea Party The Boston massacre started with taxing problems. Taxing on British tea started. People started sneaking Dutch tea in. Tea Act of Mar. 10, 1773. Which gave the East India company a tax break on their tea? First tea ships arriving at Boston Harbor. Before the taxes were due, up to 130 men disguised as Mohawk Indians dumped over 342 boxes of black tea overboard into the ocean at the harbor. Next morning, people saw tons of tea floating in the ocean near Boston Harbor. Samuel Addams used the tea party as an act of defense against British taxation on tea.
