The issue of the quote is that bottled water was contributing to the already dwindling supply of oil left in our oil reserve, and that burning it is bad for the environment because the effects of burning oil adds to our energy crisis, and is unequivocally harmful to the environment. The author's position is against the production of water bottles because of the strain it puts on our limited energy supply, and because of the palpable ways that it can harm our environment: Oil pollutes rivers and streams, transportation of water is heavy, so hauling the water to distant and remote locations, on a regular basis, can be damaging to our air quality, and the disposal of the countless water bottles adds to the unsightly cascade of an already overflowing landfill.
