In the 1800s Bournemouth became a large holiday resort attraction for many people as it was believed that being in the country would improve one’s health and so the people that came from wealthy backgrounds were initially attracted to these areas and would buy many second homes in the area. However it became more accessible to a wider range of financially secure people as a railway between London and
Bournemouth was created and affordable accommodation was made so that there was a more open market for tourists. However due to cheap budget holidays there has been a decline in tourism in the UK and therefore rebranding strategies were introduced so that more people would still be attracted to British coastal areas. One example of this coastal rebranding is the new Pier that was created in the 1880s.
How has the growth changed the area?
The growth of the area has meant that large businesses are setting up businesses which boosts the economy and leads to employment
