The film Boyz n the Hood directed by John Singleton is an exceptional film that depicts the struggle of a young teenage boy who is caught between the forceful guidance of his stern father and the inescapable violence of his dangerous South Central Los Angeles neighborhood. The impact of a built environment evoked a deeper meaning than the importance of education because without the built environment, education would diminish. This played a significant role for the lives of the members of the South Central Los Angeles neighborhood. This was because it was very obvious to tell who had a supportive and strict parent, or other influence, that would insure that the teenager was achieving what they needed to do in order to be successful. However, this was strenuous because in deprived cites like the one seen in the film, the built environment also encompasses the structural aspect of the neighborhood. It does not help the members of the neighborhood to be surrounded by alcohol, drug, or guns stores. The film emphasized that not only was this neighborhood in an older part of town, but it also had an excessive amount of bad influences that encased the members of the neighborhood with no escape. The planning issues for the neighborhood could have been drastically improved if the neighborhood had the strong and positive structural design of what is commonly seen in “upper” class neighborhoods. This involves building safe playgrounds, more schools, and safer stores to provide an overall improved
