Brandon's Argument Essay: National Merit Scholarship

Brandon is an exceptional student in every facet of school life with the exception of his grades. He received the highest score on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) out of the entire tenth grade class at Charles Herbert Flowers High School. This prompted Mr. Gorman Brown, the principal, to recommend his participation in a summer program to help attain National Merit Scholarship, as well as inspiring the Superintendent of Prince George’s County Public Schools to purchase a practice book in hopes of further increasing his score. In addition to being a phenomenal test taker, Brandon is involved in a myriad of extracurriculars including being the captain of the Forensic Mock Trial Team, a member of the National Society for Black Engineers, Animation Club, Young Writer’s Club, and a founder of the Video Game Club. …show more content…
As a result of this, Brandon has decided this year to take four APs to try to increase his GPA in hopes of attending a half-decent college. He is in this situation in the first place because of what can only be described as an incredibly lazy first half of his high school career, leaving only his junior and first semester of his senior year to raise his grade point average to acceptable levels while hopefully attaining National Merit Scholarship to attend a decent four year university. Brandon is not really doing this for himself but feels he owes it to everyone that has helped him and believed in him throughout the years to make something of himself and to make it up to all those he disappointed in the
