Rules are always there for your own good, or so you thought… If you have ever read the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, you know that rules are not always what we think they are. In the city of Anthem, it is a controlled simple life that you live for your brothers. First, we are surrounded by rules and controls our whole life. Now picture all of the rules in your lifetime tripling. That is what Equalities world was like. They had the normal rules, you have to go to work, you have to go to school, ect. The only thing is they don’t stop there. They go the extreme on rules and controls. In their society, you can’t pick your job, they assign it to you without your opinion. You can’t write anything on a piece of paper without the council knowing, you can’t have friends, you can’t love, you can’t be smarter than anyone and the list goes on and on. They have so many strict rules because they don’t want their society to have individuals. They want everyone to be equal. They don’t want you to be able to do a job that you love everyday. They don’t want you to have one friend, because that would mean that you like one person better than another. This sounds like it would make sense, but nothing can be perfect. If you have no friends, your life would be completely different. This also means that you can’t love anyone. If you met the one for you, you have to act like nothing is different about that person.
