Milkman is on a journey to find the gold. Still, he starts not to care about his materialistic trappings, including his gold watch that breaks, his shoes that he must repair with his tie, his lighter he chucks away, and his worn-down wallet as they are all stripped away or disfigured. He is starting to lose the weight that’s pulling him down. Milkman starts to care about his journey and wants answers instead of caring more about his status, clothes, and accessories. I chose this part of the book as Milkman's journey to the cave is the first part of the book, he makes a real change in himself (baptized) and starts as a turning point in his character moving forward. The second scene I found significant is the Hunt and its build-up. During chapter 11, Milkman makes his way to Virginia and stops at a store where a man of the name Mr. Solomon, the store owner, tells him a man (Guitar) left a note saying "your day is coming". Milkman knows he is talking about the seven days and must walk out of the store now, knowing his friend is looking to kill
