Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by people of English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in development occur?
In the 1600s the English started to take an interest in the new world, colonization along the east coast. Two of the early settlement of that time is New England and Chesapeake, although both New England and Chesapeake have people origin for England these two regions devolved into two difference society. Religion can be one of the ways that new England is different for the Chesapeake although religion can be one of the reason it not the strongest one but the geographic of new England and Chesapeake is what make them different cause it on where they settle.
The settler of New England is mostly people who are trying to escaping religious persecution of England some of the people who were on the mayflower compact just wanted to separate from the Church of England altogether. when the settler of new England was on the ship john Winthrop and some other men laid down some laws Winthrop preach that they should all work together as one live close together do everything together he wanted them to be ‘city up on a hill’ he make them know that god is everything. The settlement in New England was dominated by religion. The geography of new England and Chesapeake is what mostly make them different cause new England had rocky land which make it impossible for them to grow crops so they mainly trade on water, they had to turn to fishing and fur now over in Chesapeake they had the good land which they can grow things on mainly grow tobacco there economic depended on tobacco. In Chesapeake they had the intervserve to do the work new England did it by themselves.
