Woman’s Rights, Have We taken this too far?
“Feminism,” a belief, or group of people who I once looked up to, as a young girl I always thought feminists were strong willed, independent, and socially feared woman. These women were always those that I thought of as intelligent and fighting for the equality of woman, but in today’s world I feel that feminists are fighting for much more. We now have woman opening breast feeding, visibly wearing no undergarments, and arguing derogatory words in pop culture. According to Cosslett and Baxter (2013) “It’s still a tough world out there for The Ladies. Here's to hoping modern feminism will tackle it; as we all know, a fight on many fronts greatly improves our chances.” After furthering my research regarding today’s feminism and their movements, I do stand by my opinion, which we have taken this to far. Breast feeding is the most natural and wonderful experience a mother can share with her child, so I hear. I worked as a waitress for 3 years, and it was more often than not that a woman took her shirt off, during dinner at the restaurant, to feed her child. Now by law we were not at liberty to say anything to this woman, whose bare breasts were clearly making other individuals uncomfortable. Although I do agree that a woman should never have to deprive her child from food is there something truly wrong with wearing a cover during a public outing? For me, the idea of being bare breasted in a public establishment, on the street, or in someone else’s home just seems unnecessary. This is just one of the many ways I feel feminists have just gone way too far.
