Brixton is a district of South London, England. Brixton’s identity has changed enormously over the course of time. During the 1920’s, Brixton was south London’s shopping capital. In the 1950’s it became home to immigrants from the West Indies. During the 1980’s, Brixton was known by its notorious riots. But today it faces a very different challenge then what it has ever faced, it is becoming one of the trendiest places to live in, especially in London. Some individuals even describe the area’s renaissance as regenerating, others say it is simply powerful individuals forcing poorer residents out or in other words, gentrification.
