In the attempt to re-create the emotional and cathartic power of ancient Greek’s drama, opera has arose as it is called after the Latin plural of opus meaning work. As time move on, it was hard for the entertainers of the operas to keep the audience interested and to move the story line of the opera forward, in which that it has a nice transition in the work. Though it was said that the most popular opera has the most memorable song within it. However, by the eighteenth century writers, artists, and composer started to move on from the renaissance time and turned to complex harmonies and counterpoints in music as a form to keep the audience interested. By the nineteenth-century operetta a lighter version of opera has became popular and was the antecedent to Broadway musicals. An operetta consists of spoken dialog with musical numbers along the way that are by far more important than the musical itself. This entertain the audience and kept the audience’s attention because there were so many songs in the operetta that the audience do not have to wait for the next song to come up.
