Are Jewish students not allowed to express their beliefs and religion at Brooklyn College? Brooklyn College is under the investigation of the anti-Jewish comments that were proclaimed by student protesters at a Faculty Council meeting. Karen Gould, president of Brooklyn College stated,”We find this disruptive behavior unacceptable and the hateful comments especially abhorrent.” She also called for an investigation into the students that made these harsh comments. The comments said to the Jewish students were,”Zionist pig,” and ,”You Zionist blank.” As the blank is referring to was the F word. New York has a population of approximately 8 million people and Jewish people has a population of 2 million people. Brooklyn itself has nearly one in four Brooklyn residents are Jews. Approximately 23 percent of Brooklyn are Jewish. Education officials estimate there are now more than 90,000 students, an increase from 65,000 students a decade ago. Brooklyn, New York is apart of the Jewish community.
Any religion or belief should be able to be expressed anywhere throughout this nation. It’s a right the United States let's American citizens have, the Human Right Act to be exact. The Human Rights Act gives you your right to have your own thoughts, beliefs, religion and the right to change your religion or beliefs at any time. Brooklyn College officials believe Karen Gould had accusations towards hate to the Jewish students.
Brooklyn College is known for its adequate fine arts programs and was ranked 83rd for Best Colleges in Regional Universities. With Brooklyn’s sensational programs students that are encouraged to come from across the nation or even from other countries, but with Karen Gould’s actions, will Brooklyn College still be one of the top performing colleges the nation

The person to represent the Jewish religion expresses their beliefs very deeply, but wants to be unknown. Here are the questions she was asked and what she replied,”Should the people who made the comments get punished? Yes, they should be kicked out from the college or be supervised closely for the rest of their years there. Why do you think the people made those type of comments? People nowadays still believe in the old days back in the 1900’s, but I believe this is a totally new era and we all shouldn't be judged. How should we stop these anti-Jewish comments towards Jews? There can’t be a way to stop these comments being said, but we can just ignore them. Who do you believe is responsible for these types of comments? The chancellor of Brooklyn College is responsible for the comments and should be under review if she can run the college correctly. Will the Jewish religion still be judged after its investigation? Yes, because not just the Jewish religion is judged, every other religion is judged too and the only way to stop it is like what i said earlier, just to ignore them.” This comes to show that some people still do feel they can’t express their religion and probably will never be able to without being judged, but the best choice we can do is turn our head the other
