I believe “Brother Can You Spare a Dime” showed the discontent and feeling that men were not being treated well after everything they did to help the American expansion and fighting in the WWI; they felt betrayed by the government. Listening to the song I felt sympathy for the people during that time, they worked hard, fought hard and now they can’t even afford a loaf of bread. I think it was a dark and dismal time in American society.

Wildwood Flower
Wildwood Flower was an interesting song because although the music was upbeat the lyrics were sad, the women were singing about a man that either died or left them alone. Country music is known for lyrics that touch home, but in this song, the music doesn’t match …show more content…
I did find a different traditional pow wow song and the rhythmic drums were hypnotizing.

Black Snake Moan
The bluesy song “Black Snake Moan” was curious for me, I believe he was talking about his wife or girlfriend who left him or made him leave. The music incites a feeling to me that he was struggling with something; I believe the snake was a metaphor of his what he was fighting. The song made me feel sorrowful the rhythmic melody seemed to add to it.
Descarga De Hoy
The song “Descarga De Hoy” evoked feelings of excitement, I just wanted to dance, the Cuban influence honestly made me think of Desi Arnaz. I believe during this time period in America the music may not have been immediately embraced, as there was dissatisfaction about what was going on in Cuba.

Livery Stable Blues
The jazz tune “Livery Stable Blues” elicits a fun, free feeling for me. I think of this period as high-spirited and at times rowdy; The Jazz Age. Prohibition happened and speakeasies were a common thing, it was a time when races intermingled in these areas more.
