The Brown University dual degree program with RISD is attractive to me in that it offers an opportunity to specialize in an art medium while simultaneously pursuing a degree within the liberal arts. As a student interested in photography, human rights, and Spanish, I’ve found it difficult to find a higher learning program that has equal representation within each of those areas of study. Specifically as an artist, it is incredibly difficult to find an art school where students are able to dual major in additional subjects outside of the arts. Consequently, I am interested in studying through the Brown-RISD program because I believe that this specific curriculum will meet my needs and ideally exceed my expectations in terms of opportunities …show more content…
This is important to me in that the optimal undergraduate education in my eyes is one that transitions smoothly to a career. As a student who not only loves to sketch, collage, and photograph but research, read, and debate, I believe this program will grant me access to an opportunity that is the ideal educational situation for me for the next five years. I have worked tirelessly on various personal projects, getting involved in school clubs, attending outside programs, and making the most of my classes throughout high school. I may not have perfect grades or the highest SAT scores, but I have done everything else in my power to show my dedication to the work I given my time to. Last year, I spent my summer vacation abroad in Spain. It was my first time out of the country, I knew very little Spanish, and I was terrified of all that was unknown. Despite my hesitations, my experience abroad was a turning point in how I view the world. I now know how incredibly important it is to travel--to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch all I have only ever seen in books. Language is power--allowing individuals to communicate with more of the world and build
