Case Study 2 – Ron’s Approach
Ron is clearly a motivated employee who wants to prove his worth to the company, during this report however we will discuss where Ron has gone wrong in his approach to communicating with his staff and solutions for how Ron might improve his communication and people skills in order to get a better response in the future.
1. Why might three of Ron’s team be reacting the way they are to the proposed new system?
If we look at this issue from the very start then perhaps Ron’s first mistake was to not thoroughly investigate his new position prior to accepting the offer, Had Ron done this there would be no need to introduce any new system for performance monitoring and the hostility might have been avoided.
Ron’s three team members reacted in an hostile way because at no stage prior to the meeting did Ron approach his staff and ask for input or provide any consultation period, he has just called a meeting and said this is what will happen, staff need to feel like they have been involved in the process otherwise you will be met with resistance.
One way this might have been avoided would be to hold one on one meeting with each staff member prior to any plans going ahead.
