Bubo virginianus, also known as the Great Horned Owl or Tiger Owl, is an exceptionally adaptable owl that is native to North and South America (Artuso 2014). Bubo virginianus is a large, powerful, and majestic bird that is adapted by its anatomy to survive in any type of climate. This species was first described by Gmelin (Houston 1998). Many humans confuse the common Great Horned Owl, Bubo virginianus, with the Costal Great Horned Owl, Bubo saturates. One of the Bubo virginianus close relatives is the Glaucidium castaneum, or the common name is Chesnut Owl (Houston 1998). They live and are found in terrestrial habitats. Bubo virginianus is a member of the animalia kingdom, Phylum Chordata, Class Aves, Order Strigiformes, and the family Strigidae (Houston 1998).

Like many other organisms, humans play a huge role in the loss of the Great Horned Owl's habitat. Agricultural practices like insecticides and pesticides have harmed Bubo virginianus population (Houston 1998). The loss of Great Horned Owls have occurred due to preying upon insects that have been exposed to certain insecticides or pesticides. Bubo virginianus can be spotted in the state of Georgia, but often in unlikely places. Humans have pushed these majestic owls into newly urban and suburban places like Sumter County, Atlanta, and Albany (Artuso 2014). Great Horned Owl is found in practically all habitats in North America and South America, from swamps to
