The Burnett river is the best recreational facility in Bundaberg.

The Burnett River is a river located in the Wide Bay–Burnett and Central Queensland regions of Queensland, Australia. It originates in the Burnett Range, part of the Great Dividing Range, close to Mount Gaeta and east of Monto. The major tributaries of the Burnett River include the Three Moon Creek, the Auburn River an the Boyne River. The river descends 485 metres over its 435-kilometre course and flows generally south past Eidsvold and Mundubbera before heading east, adjacent to the townships of Gayndah and Wallaville before entering the city of Bundaberg. Moises Arias suggests that walking in a natural environment is much healthier and more relaxing than walking in a built up area. Meadowvale Nature Park, on the banks of the river, is an aesthetic and noise free zone, except for the wildlife, where you can view over 60 different species and animals. Fishing is also another great way to relax along the Burnett River. Some fisherman say about fishing in the Burnett River,“ To say it’s the best fishing we have ever had wouldn’t be an understatement”. Since the floods in 2013,the river has been at it’s best with the quality, size and species of fish like mackerel, flathead and threadfin salmon. The Bundaberg region has many picnic areas but the best are alongside the Burnett river. These picnic areas include facilities such as BBQs, toilets, playgrounds and wheelchair access all located with the beautiful views of the river. The river also gives visitors access to BBQ boat hires which are available for self drive up to 10 people. Research has shown that physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long term health benefits. Riverside boardwalk , next to the river, is a great way to become fit and healthy. It is a three kilometer walk starting from Alexandra Zoo Park. This walk is a great way to get children out and about. If you are a more advanced walker the ParkRun, which is at Queens park just up from the boardwalk, is another activity available along the river. Yet another physical activity to do on the beautiful Burnett River is rowing. Operating since 1889, the Bundaberg Rowing Club has given a healthier lifestyle to hundreds of locals and visitors alike. This sport offers a great cardio-vascular workout. In addition to these facilities Paradise dam, also known as the Burnett river dam, 100 kilometres south-west of Bundaberg,offers great physical activities like skiing, tubing, tobogganing, kayaking and swimming. It includes interesting walks including a hike along the five kilometre Finney Creek walking trail.
