RESEARCH PROPOSAL TITLE:
“Upland Tourism Development for the Moc Chau Plateau in Vietnam.”
1. ABSTRACT
Over last twenty years, the world has witnessed rapid changes in the economy and society. These changes affected to a wide range of upland areas in the world seriously. From this fact, it is clearly that the need of socioeconomic development for upland areas is today more vital than ever. In that sense, governments in these countries should support and promote to find a promising industry as an effective tool to retrieve the upland areas' economy.
Because of various changes on tourism demands, the development of upland tourism is a potential tourism sector which is expected to satisfy needs of tourists who want to have more "new" experiences. Moreover the type of organizing for activities in the mountainous villages is different from traditional tours and popular destinations.
2. INTRODUCTION
There is a fact that during recent years the growth of Vietnam tourist industry has gone up considerably. The development of traditional tourism, mostly in urban centers or coastal and resorts, has shown that tourism is one of services sector which can gain huge effects to the economy of a certain area. To illustrate, Thanh Hoa is known as one of the poorest province in Vietnam in 1990s. However, since the project of investment and building on Sam Son Beach was implemented, tourism has become the main income source of people in Thanh Hoa. Besides that, there are still some parts of the country have been left behind. With available natural resources they are seems as potential areas to develop upland tourism.
In particular currently Vietnam government is supporting upland tourism with the purpose to maintain local economies and create more jobs. This may help to resolve major unemployment problems in Vietnam. Although upland tourism is considered as a new supply, changes on demands for holidays in a plateau or in a house on stilts have grown dramatically in many upland regions.
The location of this research is a north-western mountainous area of Vietnam, called The Moc Chau Plateau. It is located in the north-western part, belongs to Moc Chau Province of Vietnam.
The research will aim to explore the following statements:
• To examine how much upland tourism contributes to the Moc Chau province’s economy.
• To estimate the demand for upland tourism in Moc Chau province
• To identify how to satisfy the demand for upland tourism Moc Chau province.
The results of this research are expected to evaluate the trend of upland tourism and to explore knowledge on visitors’ perceptions about their experience during their visit in the Moc Chau Plateau. These results could be used for the projects to develop upland tourism in the area.
3. RESEARCH QUESTIONS
The questionnaire includes three parts. The first part aims to classify data. Collecting information about the tourist attitudes, relate to the demand and supply of upland products will be the function of second part and the third part tends to estimate the tourists’ experience with upland tourism and level of their satisfaction.
