Identification of Community Brazoria County, Tx is located just south of Harris county, extending from Houston to the Gulf of Mexico. It includes the cities of Pearland, Manvel, Alvin, Angleton, Sweeny, Lake Jackson, and Freeport. Of these, Angleton is the county seat, but Pearland has the greatest population (City-data.com, 2015). As of 2012, Brazoria County contained a population of 77% urban and 23% rural (City-data.com, 2015). Of the residents of Brazoria County, 63% are between the ages of 18 and 64 (United States Census Bureau, 2010). This impacts health through air quality and traffic accidents (County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, 2015). Due to hurricanes and its close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, all of Brazoria County is considered an evacuation zone also.
Cultural Assessment Tool The Cultural Assessment Tool was used to gather information on the culture of the county. The primary cultural groups in Brazoria County are white non-hispanic of German, American, English, or Irish descent, hispanic or latino from Mexico, and black non-hispanic (City-data.com, 2015). Of these predominating cultures, that general age of adulthood is considered 18. For these particular cultures, gender does not play much of a role in choosing a healthcare provider, aside from personal preference. Having a provider of a different sex is not typically a concern for this population. Including all of the cultures in the county, 49.3% of the residents are female, meaning 50.7% are male, an almost even split (Quickfacts, 2015). Religious affiliations for the community include evangelical protestant, which is also the largest religious group for the area, catholic, mainline protestant, other, black protestant, and none (City-data.com, 2015).
