From skepticism about the smallpox vaccination in the early 1800s to the COVID-19 vaccination protests in 2022, vaccines have always raised concerns and doubts regarding its function and effectiveness. Initiated by Edward Jenner’s cowpox experiments, he showed that by infecting a child with lymph from a cowpox blister, he could protect them from smallpox. In that time and age, the idea he proposed and proved was met with criticism and a multitude of sanitary, religious, scientific, and political objections (“History of Anti-Vaccination Movements”). The process for receiving the smallpox vaccine was to cut flesh from the child, and insert the lymph of a person who was vaccinated a week prior. This process struck fear in parents and children
