What do crime scene investigators do? They typically walk the prospect of a crime searching for useful evidence such as fingerprints hairs or fibers and so on. After they gather all the information up they then take it to the crime lab to get it tested. However, a crime scene investigation normally begins way before the CSI entering a structure, and open field or wooded area. Basic steps to remember about a crime scene investigation are: Approach the scene, Secure and protect the scene, Initiate Preliminary Survey, Evaluate Physical Evidence Possibilities, Prepare a Narrative of the Scene, Capture the scene Photographically, prepare the crime scene sketch, Conduct a detailed search, Record and collect Physical Evidence, Conduct a …show more content…
The main positions are: Team Leader, Photographer and Photographic Log Recorded, Sketch Preparer, Evidence Recorder/ Custodian, and Specialists. You will go into the field doing one or the other and that will be your set job as it follows. Training and experience will only be used to people with a positive attitude and potential. Being a crime scene investigator isn’t easy, and most times having a high school diploma doesn’t justify it either. The degree level to become a CSI is a bachelor’s degree. An associate’s degree is sometimes acceptable but not most of the time. It typically takes at least four years of full- time study. Even with a degree you still will need some hands on training when you get into the job field. The average salary for a crime scene investigator is 43,335 per year. The median annual salary for a crime scene investigator was 56,750 in May of 2016. Different years determines on how much you will make because of the crime and what not. Most crime scene investigators start off making at least 26.76 per hour. The top 10 percent of investigators earned more than 84,980 a year and a bottom 10 percent made less than
