Over the last 9 months or so, I have gotten to know Cadet Martin as his friend, squadmate and fellow member in God Chasers. I understand that he has struggled to perform to the Air Force academy’s exceptional standard this past spring semester, but I think it would be in bad taste if I agreed with the decision to just rid him over one bad semester. Through our friendship and daily interaction, I have seen firsthand that Hunter has an incredible personality and possesses a very unique and relatable dedication to serving as I do. He is a young man who fought hard and honestly tried the best he could to pass all of his classes and develop. He and I would spend hours of effort trying to study up for our calculus exams, prep for the physics labs or simply review our goals for officership projects while others went on to do over activities. Ever since being notified that he would face an Academic Review Committee, he has gone out to seek knowledge on what to do better, clarify his mistakes with professors, and solicit our AOC’s professional feedback. Never once did Hunter let his attitude or self-worth diminish nor falter. The Air Force academy is a vigorous institution and throws a lot at you like a firehose. However, this firehose of knowledge and development allows for achievement, development, failures amongst the cadets so they are better prepared to lead our military. Hunter is definitely going through the academy’s firehose right now, but at the same time he has grown. My leadership took a chance on me a while back when and here I am now asking the same for Hunter. He has failed, but he is beyond competent and has an enormous potential to
