The American Dream is based on the idea that if you work hard, you can be successful in America. This narrative has been around for years, drawing many immigrants to move to this country, leaving all they know behind to give their families a chance at a better life. Gaining success isn't an easy journey, but with hard work and determination, you will get there. I believe that the American Dream is true, if you work hard you will be successful. One reason why the American Dream is achievable is because our country was founded on this idea. Before America was the free country we all know today, it was under Great Britain’s rule. After this powerful speech, it motivated the colonists to start the Revolution. The Revolution ended with America gaining its freedom. This relates to the American Dream because it shows that to be successful whether it's gaining independence or living a better life in a new country, people should work hard and take risks to achieve this success. In “The American Dream is Real. I’m Living Proof” Angel Eduardo tells the story of his immigrant parents who came to America and became successful. Eduardo’s parents are immigrants from the Dominican Republic. Before coming to America, his father worked as an oral surgeon but he wanted to move to America to give his family a better life so he started all over and his mom left the only home she ever knew. This is common with many immigrant families. Eduardo mentions how the years living in America at first were a struggle. In the text it states “I was an infant when we lived in someone’s attic and my parents worked to make ends meet. I was two when we moved into a New York City apartment and my father ran a dental laboratory out of the spare bedroom.”(Eduardo). These are just a few examples of the struggles his parents went
