Can the Chinese Communist Party Maintain Power over China?
Winston Churchill once said that "democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others". Leaders such as Churchill have discussed alternatives to democracy without much success. In the last millennium, most governments have accepted democracy as the ideal form of government. Leaders and commoners alike praise the way democracy allows people to share their personal interests yet still function collectively through majority rule. However, in recent decades, China's authoritarian government has seemingly emerged as a steady alternative to democracy. With constant economic growth in the double digits, China has taken the world by surprise and continues to develop as a global superpower. Despite helping to modernize China, whether the Chinese government can successfully maintain control resides on its ability to curb corruption and maintain consistent economic growth.

According to the Pew Research center, 87 percent of Chinese respondents reported that they were satisfied with their lives and 74 percent expected their futures to be even better. Chinese respondents also attributed the CCP for saving and modernizing China. Furthermore, economists note that half of China currently lives in cities, and by 2040, 75 percent - nearly 1 billion people - will be living in urban areas.
