Firstly, many vital and beautiful sea creatures like the Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Vaquita Dolphin, and Blue Whale have become endangered due to humanity’s carelessness. Although it may be true that getting rid of the plastic straw industry in Canada may negatively impact the economy, Canadians should look at the big picture - the need to look for new jobs as opposed to contributing to the Earth’s destruction. It’s a positive asset that Canada is a strong and wealthy country that can afford a short-term crack in the economy, and will not have to worry about any devastating effects.
In the meantime, Canadians need to ask, why has the government not taken action yet? Why have the politicians representing the citizens not thought twice about this ecological decree? Why is the government not placing importance on the negative impact straws have on sea creatures? Humans are the ones in total control of the planet, so is it fair that other creatures suffer due to human negligence?
