John Ralston Saul’s article Canada’s multiculturalism: A circle, ever edging outwards is chronologically incoherent. It addresses Canada – a new country– as a debatable notion, which neglects the abuse that immigrants face. For the sake of assimilation, volunteering is transformed from being a community builder into a tool that forces Canadians to welcome immigrants into the Canadian society. Saul thinks that volunteering is reflective of a healthy community where immigrants can grow and attain a future that is filled with hope.
