Background
Cannabis, more commonly known by the slang term marijuana refers to the several types of the Cannabis sativa (the Indian hemp plant) and it is the most commonly used illegal substance in the world. The plant includes the “psychoactive drug called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC.” The cannabis plant is categorized as a hemp plants which are grown for their fiber and seeds. It is used as a psychotropic drug in order to produce hemp fiber, which is normally found in the long stalk of the plant. These fiber stalks of the hemp plant have been used to make clothing, paper, textiles and fuel. Cannabis intoxication is the easiest to diagnose due to the observable signs. The most immediate signs include reddened eye membranes, increased appetite, dry mouth, and increased heart rate. Other cannabis-related disorders can also be diagnosed through behavioral or psychological signs such as impaired motor coordination, judgment, anxiety, euphoria, and social withdrawal along with occasional panic attacks or impaired short-term memory. When speaking psychologically, the chronic use of marijuana can lead to a loss of ambition known as the "amotivational syndrome." Another effect of heavy cannabis use is hallucinations and delusions which rarely happens, but is caused by the reaction of cannabis and a person’s genetic makeup. The most common way to be diagnosed with cannabis related disorders is through a urine test by healthcare provider to identify metabolites of cannabinoids and is normally followed up by a questionnaire based on dependency. Examination of the nasopharynx and bronchial lining may show changes because of cannabis
