The Pardoner is described as having blonde hair that he wears long and a smooth hairlessfacehe Pardoner’s sexuality is not clear, he could be a man, a woman or some combination of the twoA Pardoner’s is a person who travels around the country selling church pardons which arepieces of paper with the bishops signature granting the “buyer” forgiveness for their sinsHe also carries pieces of clothing, bones and many other objects which belong to dead saints and tries to sell them to the other pilgrims for moneyAnother thing the Pardoner has is a jar full of pig bones, with it he is able to to cheat a poor parson out of two months salaryAlthough the pardoner is dubious he is a very good preacher, but his only concern is getting money in his pocket, so he criticizes people for their sinfulness so they can buy what he is selling.
Pope Leo X wa the head of the catholic church, although he was a Pope he was not very interested in the advance of the catholic church. It was during his reign that Martin Luther wrote his thesis about the excessive spending of the catholic church. Leo was responsible for this spending. He participated in massive construction campaigns, expensive military campaigns and huge personal spending which led the church into huge debts. To help take the court out of it’s dept Leo decided to increase the sale of both churchly offices and indulgences.
