Almost 80 percent of all cardiac arrests occur in homes and public places, and 35 to 55% are witnessed by a family member, co-worker or friend. Traditionally, when a patient arrests in a hospital the family is guided away from their loved one into a waiting room while life-saving measures are initiated. There will be no patient care disruption during CPR while families witnessing CPR, many studies demonstrated that health care professionals felt having family members’ present enhanced communication and facilitated education. Basol et al. (2009) so presence of family will decrease the disruption to health care providers. Family witnessed CPR did not affect resuscitation characteristics, patient survival, or level of emotional stress in the medical team (Jabre et al., 2013)
Family members who are present at the time of CPR are at high risk for emotional burdens. (Oczkowski, 2014)
In my opinion, though, it is difficult for family to be present during resuscitation or dying of their loved one but it may reduce guilt of family to leave the patient in crisis.
Permitting families to witness CPR may satisfy the psychological need of family and it may give families chance to see their loved one for the last time and to accept their truth of
