Some of a welder's main duties are to layout and secure parts.Before welding a welder must prep the metal before working on it. The first thing a welder must do is grind any coating on the surface of the metal. Which means any rust, paint, or any of coating that could be on the surface of the workpiece. if the workpiece has angles or edges they would have to use an angled grinder. They would have to remove any bad welds of the piece. When welding welders have to wear safety equipment like a welding mask or shield,to protect their eyes.

Different materials can require different types of welders. If a welder were to weld a big pipe that might require a arc welder. To be a welder you have to either have certain certifications like licensing or certification. One type of certification is an AWS certified welder certification, and it can be attained by several AWS accredited Testing facilities (welding Certification Programs With Training Requirements). The average salary for a first year welder is about $36,626. A first year welder in indiana gets paid $34,000 a year. The hourly salary can be anywhere from $11.00 to $25.00 an hour.
