Four-day school weeks have had a direct influence on the increase in achievement among students. The attention spans and focus of these students have also seen great improvements, which undoubtedly has a hand in improved test results. In the article, “Four-Day School Weeks”? Only If They Fit,” Carol Chmelynski writes about reasons for the switch to four-day weeks and how the adoption has affected children's performance in school. The text concludes that “‘ACT scores are above state averages and have risen from an average of 18.7 the four years before the four-day, four-period block to 20 since–which means more scholarships. [...] Grades have improved significantly. Honor Roll students in junior and high school have doubled’” (Chmelynski 58-59).
