A carotid endarterectomy is a open procedure that is done when the carotid artery is done when they open the artery and clean the carotid artery to prevent strokes. An carotid artery occurs if plaque builds up in the two large arteries on each side of your neck which are known as the carotid arteries. The carotid arteries are the arteries in which supply your brain with oxygen rich bloods. The plaque is a substance that is made up of fat, cholesterol and calcium and many other substances found in the blood which occumulates over time and over times the plaque build up may harden and which may cause the artery to become narrow which can clog the very important artery.
