In The Passion of New Eve, Carter builds a bridge between fiction and the society of 1977. By making her book a dystopian, Carter was able to comment on aspects of society in a way to get readers to really think about the issues she brings up. Some of these issues are abortion, abuse in relationships, and people condemning women for having sex. The world has not changed much since Carter wrote this book. In today’s society, these issues are still horrifying realities for some women. Different countries and various states in the Unites States of America have made abortions more difficult to receive safely. A few states have shut down most of their Planned Parenthoods. The goal is to stop women from obtaining abortions but it just encourages
