Misdirected Efforts
One major problem lies in CDE’s misdirected efforts to serve the Latino community. Nonprofit managers juggle 3Ms-mission, money, and management (Worth, 2011). Mission statements help nonprofits measure whether or not they are on the right track with the activities they carry out. CDE’s mission is directed towards helping out Latina’s, but they are not the majority using the services provided by CDE. Essentially, this causes low clientele so CDE has to house someone, if not Latinas, in order to survive as a nonprofit. This is because nonprofits have to focus on a double bottom line, and survival is one of them (Worth, 2011). By serving individuals that are not Latina, CDE moves away from its mission and creates the question of whether the organization is set out to serve all women or just Latinas. Furthermore, the organization is aware of cultural differences, but its outreach efforts are not adjusted accordingly to the differences. CDE should increase revenue from other sources since the total of all other revenue makes up only 20%. To increase revenue, CDE can increase fundraising efforts. There needs to be more of an appeal to individual donors. The organization can hire a fundraising director to help create proper tactics and oversee the fundraising efforts. Special events are a popular fundraising strategy as well (Commuri, 2015b). CDE can hold art auctions and dance and cuisine events, since the Latin culture is famous for these
