On July 20, 2012, shooter James Holmes went into an Aurora, Colorado movie theater during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises and open fired killing 12 and injuring 70 victims. Three years after the jury of the case charges Holmes with 12 life sentences plus 3,318 years. Holmes was charged with 24 counts of murder and 140 counts of attempted murder. On August 7, 2015 the jury of nine women and three men could not reach a unanimous final decision resulting in the shooter being granted life. The trial took place in a Colorado court room with Judge Carlos A Samour Jr. As a result, families of victims and survivors finally got the closure they have wanted for the last three years.
