January 20, 2018 The 1st Amendment, arguably citizens’ favorite amendment or at least the easiest to remember, states the people’s “freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition” but it also protects our rights to believe in our own religion and to be able to express it freely. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is one of the most politically controversial topics around and in the case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Store, Inc., the arts and crafts store is resisting Patient Protection to its female employees. The company pressed charges against the federal government for violation of the 1st Amendment, religious freedom and the capability to freely exercise their religious beliefs. The supreme court had decided that the corporation did not have to provide contraception, the morning after pill, to its female employees making an outrageous statement that the corporations are superior to a woman's choice. I do not agree with the Supreme Court's decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Store, Inc. because I believe that women should be in control of their own bodies and not be manipulated into not getting the care they deserve due to loopholes. This is in violation of the 1st Amendment as this is now the beginning of another corporation who may not want to provide contraceptives as well, as they see that it comes with a
