Case Study Grand Mall Seizure

Jack Robertson has been coming to the pharmacy to fill his prescriptions for a couple of years. About three months ago, Jack was in the car accident. He has recovered since then, although, he developed a grand mall seizure for which he has been taking prescription medications. Despite the drug therapy, the seizures have not been completely controlled and he has been still experiencing them now and then. Recently, when Jack was picking up his refill at the pharmacy, he mentioned to me that he started his old construction job again. I expressed a concern about his safety and inquired, if he has informed his employer about his health condition. The grand mall seizure is a tonic-clonic seizure which means it presents itself in the two phases. The tonic phase is characterized by loss of consciousness, sudden muscle contractions, and thus risk for falls. The tonic phase is followed by the clonic phase during which muscle convulsion occurs such as uncontrolled flexion and relaxation of the muscles. Since the seizure can affect a person in such manner, I am deeply concerned about Mr. Robertson safety. Construction job is potentially dangerous to someone who is suffering from seizures because it requires person to climb the ladders, work at different heights, and use tools such as electric drills and hammers. If Mr. Robertson happened to experience a seizure during his work hours, he could seriously injure himself. Hypothetically speaking, if such incident would happen, Mr. Robertson would end up in the hospital and be out of job again which would cause the undesired financial strain on him and his family. Additionally, Mr. Robertson could potentially create unsafe work environment and put his coworkers in danger as well. His coworkers then could sue him and Mr. Manyers.
