The Talmud says that a person should do two things for himself. One is to acquire a teacher and the other is to choose a friend. Danny and Reuven do both of these things. Danny’s teacher is Reuven, and Reuven’s teacher is Danny and Danny’s friend is Reuven and Reuven’s friend is Danny. Danny teaches Reuven Talmud. He would have private lessons with him to learn it and help him to memorize the Talmud faster. Reuven teaches Danny about modern things like TV and modern art. He showed him the things in their modern day that he wouldn’t have seen if they had never met. As friends they helped each other through situation in their household. When Rev Saunders found out that Danny was going to the library to learn about science which was not allowed, Reuven explained to him that Danny doesn’t want to be a Rabbi, He wants to be a psychologist. Later, Rev Saunders allowed Danny to go to a different school and become a psychologist. Danny was a friend to Reuven because when Mr Malter was out of town for a convention, Danny let Reuven stay at his house. They were very close friends that did everything together.
