INTRODUCTION
Diabetes mellitus can be categorizes as one of the chronic disease that can cause many complications that cause huge burden morbidity. In diabetes care usually give attention on vascular and neuropathic Other than that, other problems cause by diabetes such as physical disability and handicap, so the person in charge on this study looked at referral information provided to a disability service in order to learn whether the referrers were correctly reporting the presence of diabetes in patients who were referred.
METHOD
They are examined the referral send to regional wheelchair to confirm the quality and completeness in referral information. The referrals form usually has clinical information used to determine a suitable chair. Two hundred consecutive were looked at and further information were obtains from the hospital record or by looking at the patients computerised records. They compared it to many others significant such as chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), congestive cardiac failure (CCF) and stroke. The number of referrals that mentioned this condition was compared to the number of people who really had this condition. They also compared the patients in whom diabetes as mentioned and those in whom it was not in order to ascertain if there was any difference in the two groups in term of each type of diabetes or glycaemic control. Any differences were compared with X2 test for categorical data or Fisher’s exact test for categories with less than five cases and a Student’s t-test for interval data using and SPSS
