Derived from Greek/Roman myth, Cassiopeia was a very beautiful and vain queen. She ruled alongside her husband, King Cepheus, in Ethiopia. One day, she boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, sea nymphs fathered by the Titan Nereus. Enraged by Cassiopeia’s comments, the Nereids convinced Poseidon, the sea god, to punish her. Poseidon sent Cetus, a sea monster, to destroy the coast of their kingdom. The king turned to an oracle for help who told him that the only way to appease Poseidon would be to sacrifice their only daughter, Andromeda, to the sea monster.
