The Catcher in the Rye CEA Many people often wonder where birds go when they fly south every winter. In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Holden displays great interest in this very question. Throughout the novel, Holden struggles the fragility of life due to the early passing of his brother Allie’s. The use of migrating ducks by Salinger symbolizes that change is cyclical rather permanent as Holden fears.
As a result of Allie’s death Holden has difficulty adapting to new environments and accepting people’s transition from childhood to adulthood. This inability to adjust has resulted in expulsion from at least four schools and a strained relationship with all authority figures. During a trip to the museum Holden expressed
