Caterpillar Inc. started in 1925 during the merger of The Holt Manufacturing Company and C.L. Best Tractor Co. This merger began the Caterpillar Tractor Co. which was the original name of Caterpillar Inc. It was not until 1986 that the company was reorganized into Caterpillar Inc. Today Caterpillar, or commonly referred to as “CAT,” produces heavy equipment of all sizes for the construction, mining, and agriculture industries.
The Manufacturing of Products While Caterpillar is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, they have dealerships and manufacturing plants all across the world. A lot of the time these dealerships double as rental locations, as certain construction companies may not be able to own all of their equipment. Taking a look at almost any construction site, CAT equipment will be found. Caterpillar’s economic risks extend all across the globe have a share of the market in almost every country. The economy is a factor for Caterpillar far beyond just the United States. Any country that is experiences economic growth is typically where Caterpillar will see a growth in revenue. Coal, iron, gold, copper, oil and natural gas are all industries that are heavily influenced by the government control. Caterpillar states, “Customers in these industries frequently base their decisions to purchase our products on the expected future performance of these industries,” meaning customers are only going to purchase equipment if they believe their respective industry will be doing well in the future. These industries are heavily influenced by the political parties that have control. During democrat control, these industries do not excel as well due to the parties push for cleaner energy.
