The United States strived for a democratic government, while the Soviet Union believed in a communist government. These differences in the rule of government lead to increase tension between these two nations.

The United States and the Soviet Union were allies during World War II, when World War II came to an end the allies decided to divide Germany into four sectors. A war broke out in Vietnam because North Vietnam wanted to unite all of Vietnam under communism, but the South Vietnam was against communism and wanted to stay under democracy. The political disagreements lead to the Vietnam war. The way was fought between a communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was supported by communist countries such as China and the Soviet Union, while South Vietnam was supported by anti-communist countries such as the United States. According to Document 5, it shows a map of the War in Vietnam, demonstrating a communist North Vietnam and a noncommunist South Vietnam. North Vietnam’s army was led by Ho Chi Minh and South Vietnam’s army was led by Ngo Dinh Diem. The result of the Vietnam war is Vietnam was unified under the rule of communism.
