Celia Foote, a dynamic character in The Help, written by Kathryn Stockett, often displays striking levels of isolation and secrecy as a result of alarming personal issues and social enmity. Firstly, one can delve into Celia’s seclusion by acknowledging her incessant attempts to join into League events and her inability to take the hint that “I left her [Hilly] two messages, so I’m sure she’ll call me back anytime now” (251). Celia’s constant nagging of League members demonstrates her shallow attempts to fit into a social hierarchy that severely contrasts those she is accustomed to. Following evident social ostracization from her peers Celia plunges into deeper segregation as she utterly tarnishes her already poor reputation at the Benefit.
