Centennial Olympic Park Bombing

Introduction to the Bombing The Olympics is a worldwide competition where countries can put aside their differences and compete for the fun of it but even in the Olympics, some tragedies occur. In 1996, Centennial Olympic Park was created. In the same year, a man threw a pipe bomb in the park that killed 2 people and injured over 100 people. This unforeseen incident shook the entire Olympic world. This research paper will focus on analyzing what happened during this incident, how it affected the Olympics, how it affected the people of Atlanta, and what happened during the Olympic

He ended up dropping out of high school and went to things that didn’t get any better after he did, “Rudolph had already dropped out of high school. On Branham’s suggestion, he spent four months with an anti-Semitic, racist, and homophobic preacher in Missouri” (Anglis 2001). He later went home to North Carolina and joined the military. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he was training with explosives. He ended up being discharged, “Stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky with the 101st Airborne Division, Rudolph learned quite a bit about explosives while he was there. But his career as a soldier was not a long one, since he was discharged for marijuana use in 1989” (Anglis 2001). Eric Rudolph in his early years pretty much failed at everything he attempted, what did he do? Eric Rudolph was the real culprit of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing, along with many abortion clinics and lesbian bars, “Eric Rudolph planted a bomb at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia — one week into the Summer Olympics” (Anglis 2001). It was found after the Richard Jewell controversy.
