On their journey to the country, these children face various struggles that unfortunately include violence. Many of these Central American immigrant children are forced to flee their home countries due to the violence and lack of security in Central American countries. Whether they travel alone, or in groups, these children leave behind a life that they are so accustomed to. These children range from ages 7-17, so many times when they do reach America, they are often put into detention facilities. An alternative to incarceration. The United States has implemented many refugee programs and has allowed for these children to be placed in the care of their sponsors and away from the violence of their native countries.
