In the Mexican American war, one event that happened was the battle of Cerro Gordo. On April 18, 1847, American troops were going to seize another Mexican city when they were ambushed by well prepared Mexican troops. As they battled, Captain Robert E. Lee suggested they flank them. As they did, the Mexicans realized what they were doing and turned around and fled. The Americans then marched to Mexico City.

Some of the key people in the war was James Polk. He was the president at the time. He tried to strike a deal with the Mexicans for some land but they refused.
