Good Afternoon. I am doing my project on Cesar Chavez, a Hispanic Civil Rights Activist. But before that, what did Cesar Chavez fight for? In the 1960’s-1970’s, farm laborers toiled in harsh circumstances, such as being exposed to hazardous chemicals, living in substandard conditions with little food and shelter, and facing sexual harassment, all while earning minimal pay. Mexican braceros under the Bracero Program took the place of those who protested. You may be wondering what is the Bracero Program, The Bracero Program was an agreement by the United States and Mexico from 1942-1964 which allowed Mexican laborers to work in the U.S. primarily in agriculture. Cesar Chavez was a prominent American labor leader and civil rights activist known
